THE SEVENTH SUNDAY AFTER PENTECOST

Relational Covenant for UCC, Federated

  We will pray together.

We will interact with love, respect, and acceptance.

We will take the time to listen to each other without interrupting, judging, or criticizing.

We will listen attentively until the other person is finished speaking.

If we disagree, we will provide respectful, constructive feedback.

We will make every effort to relay the truth, never sharing unsubstantiated gossip.

We will refrain from making judgments based on second-hand information.

We will always work together to reach a common goal and agreement that suits all parties.

We will honor confidentiality when it is asked for.

We should always work toward the betterment of the entire congregation.

We will refrain from making judgments about one another.

LET’S KEEP OUR SANCTUARY QUIET:  Please turn off your cell phones and beepers before the service.

THE GOLDEN BEES NEED HEALTH KITS:  The Golden Bees need health kits that accompany the sleeping bags they make for the homeless. We need hand towels, wash cloths, soap, toothpaste, toothbrushes, combs, and Band-Aids to complete the kits. You can also donate extra items, like shampoo or body lotion. As always, thank you for your generous support.

ATTENDANCE-REGISTRATION SHEETS:  We encourage you to fill out the attendance-registration sheets in the pews every Sunday.  This will help us with updating our records.  Thank you!

CONVERSATIONS WITH PASTOR MELINDA:

I would like to meet with everyone who attends services at UCC Federated for conversation on Tuesdays. Your vision for the future of this beautiful church is important to me. Please sign up in the narthex, outside the sanctuary, or call/e-mail our office and reserve a time slot at 508-943-0061, or  HYPERLINK "mailto:uccfedwebster@verizon.net" uccfedwebster@verizon.net.

CHOIR REHEARSALS:  Starting Thursday, September 9, 2010, from 7-8:30 p.m., the choir will rehearse for performing during the Offertory on Sundays starting September 12.  We invite all members and friends of the United Church of Christ Federated who enjoy singing to please join us.  We will have child care available.  If you have young children and feel the time frame is too late, please contact Verna Davis at 508-943-2969 or Jim Morrison at 508-943-8165 and the committee will work to adjust the time frame.

TO ALL COMMITTEE CHAIRS: Please contact the office to confirm your meeting times, and remember to call if those times change (508-943-0061).  Many thanks!

CHANGE IS GOOD!  Your generous donations of $$CHANGE$$ will be used to purchase yarn.  The Prayer-Shawl Ministry team will CHANGE this yarn into beautiful, comforting prayer shawls and distribute them to our friends and neighbors who are hospitalized, ill, or shut in.  We hope and pray to CHANGE loneliness into comfort; despair into hope; a frown into a smile.  We would appreciate any donations of yarn, crochet hooks, and knitting needles.  Please drop them off in the church office.  We appreciate your anticipated support!

I want to take this opportunity to invite you to come and celebrate my joy and relief of completing my chemo sessions, thanking God for helping me to deal with the treatments that cured me of the cancer.  A party will take place next Saturday, July 17, at 12:30pm in the Fellowship Hall of the church.  Food, fellowship, and rejoicing in abundance.  I hope to see you there.  All are welcome.  ~ ~ Verna

NEW MEN’S GROUP

Several male church members have expressed an interest in creating a group that would meet once a month for fellowship.  Contact Tancrede, or sign up in the narthex, if you are interested.

THE FIRST READING

Deuteronomy 30: 9-16

Then the LORD your God will make you most prosperous in all the work of your hands and in the fruit of your womb, the young of your livestock and the crops of your land.  The LORD will again delight in you and make you prosperous, just as he delighted in your fathers, if you obey the LORD your God and keep his commands and decrees that are written in this Book of the Law and turn to the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul.

Now what I am commanding you today is not too difficult for you or beyond your reach.  It is not up in heaven, so that you have to ask, “Who will ascend into heaven to get it and proclaim it to us so we may obey it?” Nor is it beyond the sea, so that you have to ask, “Who will cross the sea to get it and proclaim it to us so we may obey it?”  No, the word is very near you; it is in your mouth and in your heart so you may obey it.

See, I set before you today life and prosperity, death and destruction.  For I command you today to love the LORD your God, to walk in his ways, and to keep his commands, decrees and laws; then you will live and increase, and the LORD your God will bless you in the land you are entering to possess.
